Social Media From Space

Astronaut Chris Hadfield, described by Forbes as "perhaps the most social media savvy astronaut ever to leave Earth", has returned to Earth this week after a 5-month misson as Captain on board the International Space Station (ISS).

Hadfield posted fun and interesting videos to his Youtube channel, documenting what it is like living on the ISS, gaining millions of views. The videos range from just footage of his watch floating about, to conducting experiments submitted by school students. His Twitter also has over 950,000 followers.

The video that gained most attention was Hadfield's cover of David Bowie's Space Oddity, with over 11,500,000 views within four days of being posted (David Bowie's original version currently has 7,700,000 views). This is the first music video ever shot in space.

The publicity gained by Hadfield has brought space exploration back into the public eye.

Chris Hadfield has been crowned King of Space by the internet upon his return to Earth this week.
